By Kerwin Jackson Pollock-style pop art music paintings on display at London's Barbican Centre Conservatory, July 2021 | Bob Marley music prints

By Kerwin Exhibits at The Barbican Centre, London July 2021

I was very pleased to exhibit my artwork in London for a second time, at The Barbican Centre in July 2021, just weeks after my first London appearance at The Other Art Fair in the first week of July.

It was a pleasure to exhibit as the guest artist at a private function and 25th birthday party in the Conservatory at London’s prestigious Barbican Centre. The Barbican Centre is one of Europe’s leading arts and cultural centres. My Jackson Pollock-inspired pop art music paintings and prints were on display here for one night only, in what is London’s second largest conservatory.

This was a unique, pop-up style event, and I had several of my most popular paintings on display to provide a splash of colour against the Conservatory’s green, plant-filled backdrop. I also had my orange neon sign and TV playing my painting videos, so that visitors can instantly understand what my artwork is about. The colours all looked great together and I have some great photos I’ve used widely in my marketing since.

I also displayed my action-painted, Jackson Pollock-style multicolour 12” vinyl records, which for this pop-up event were a great and practical way to add to my music art theme. Driving down to London from Norfolk for the weekend (my first time driving in London!), I also packed a couple of my easels and various hanging equipment and materials. Having only seen photos of the space, and without having walls to display on, I knew this would be a good challenge of thinking on my feet to create my display. I set up my display in the afternoon, just hours before the opening – this added an extra buzz to proceedings.

By Kerwin art and live music combo

As the Barbican Centre Conservatory is so big with different areas I knew the party would be happening in, I also ordered some large prints of my paintings to display. I also purchased wooden string hangers to display these with – the hangers afforded more flexibility for this event and are lighter than frames.

I displayed five of these prints, including Stevie Wonder, Rihanna, Diana Ross and Biggie, behind the stage where the live music was happening. It was really cool to see my artwork coming together with music properly for the first time! Especially when some Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross songs were performed.

Speeches also happened on this stage (which meant more great exposure and photos of my artwork!), and I was asked to give a speech as the guest artist, which was cool too. I met some great new people on the night, along with some of the friends I already knew in attendance.

TUPAC – painted in a chaotic Jackson Pollock style…

This pop-up exhibit was also the first and last time I displayed my Tupac original painting. The week following my Barbican display, my painting was posted to the official 2pac Instagram account – and my painting was quickly sold to someone in Los Angeles, California off the back of this! The 2pac Instagram post has also reached over a quarter of a million likes! Prints of my colourful Tupac pop art painting are still available in various sizes from £35.

Overall, my Barbican Centre guest artist exhibition in their conservatory was a great experience and really fun night.
